Ed Dougert – Artist of the Month for January 2020

by The Staff on Jan 3rd, 2020

The January 2020 Artist of the Month at Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing is photographer Ed Dougert. His images of the remnants of the anthracite coal region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, entitled The Black Land, will be on display in our gallery for the entirety of the month.

For nearly two hundred years, anthracite coal mining dominated all aspects of life in Northern Pennsylvania. Although the industry declined after WWI, the physical, social and environmental consequences reverberate to this day. Since 1999, Dougert has been photographically documenting the transformation of the land caused the mining operations and how its remnants influence the local society and economy.

Join a meet & greet with Ed Dougert on Saturday, January 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing. Discuss, with Dougert, his photography and his subject matter.

Visit Ed Dougert's Photography website at theblackland.com.
